GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG.

26th November, 1919.

My Lord,

I have the honour to address Your Lord- -ship on the subject of a proposal by the Committee of the Diocesan Boys' School to move the school, from its present position in Bonham Road, Victoria, to a sits in the Kowloon Peninsula adjoining the Yaumati Railway Station.

2.

The land on which the school stands at present was originally held under a lease for 999 years dating from the 25th June, 1863, for the purposes of a Dioces School at a nominal premium of 85, and a nominal Crow Rent of 81. In the year 1887 an extension of 13,815 square feet was granted on easy terms, namely a premium of $553, with an increase of 81 a year in Crow Rent, the old lease being surrendered, and a new lease for an ares of 44,955 square feet being issued on the 14th October, 1892. In this new lease there is no restrictive covenant and there is nothing to show why the clause confining the use of the land to the purpose of a Diocesan School was omitted.

3.

:

The present site is now so surrounded with buildings that it has become quite unsuitable for the purposet

of a high class bourding and day school for European,

Eurasian and Chinese boys, who now number well over three

hundred. The accommodation in the buildings is insufficient,
